I was called out to discover the cause of a leak from an attic in the Coolock area. I was greeted by this weeping rust encrusted 40 year old water tank. Old galvanised tanks are rare in Dublin now, and if you have one, you should have it replaced as soon as possible by a plumber as, it will eventually leak at some point in the future. In this case the damage was minimal.
This radiator valve has sheared off on the body of the valve itself. The householder assured me they never tryed turning it recently. A lot of water escaped, hitting the ceiling and, splashing around the hall of the house.
If you have water appearing in places that it should not be then, its time to call a plumber. In many cases a plumber can stop the leak and save you money. The damage caused by water leaking inside a structure is severe. Even a slow leak that builds over time can rot timber and discolour walls and ceilings, wooden floors warp from contact with water over a prolonged period. So if you are in Dublin and need a plumber for a leak contact Dublinplumber.ie.
After an emergency callout to water coming from the attic i found this. The ballcock had split on the body and the pressure was high, the result was a lot of water in the bedrooms below. I replaced the ballcock and and stopped the flood. The restrictor stayed in place and this slowed down the flow of water, the water damage would have been a lot worse had the plastic restrictor come away with the valve.

After an emergency callout to an apartment block from a panicked man in the IFSC in Dublin I came to find the cause of the leak was that, the backnut on the filling valve had simply fell apart. It had been replaced by a plumber already and, wasn't the original that came with the cistern. The valve was cheap and flimsy although it still worked fine. The water was pouring out of the cistern onto the floor, luckily the homeowner had returned to discover it or the damage would have been a lot worse.

Badly thought out hot-press in the Dublin 8 area. I ended up with one arm through the "access" hole and the other through the door! Also note the ballcock is over in the corner instead of being near the inadequate access. A plumber should not have to remove tiles and cut into a wall. Allowance for later access for maintenance should be part of the original design.
I had to remove a tectite push-fit elbow from the ceiling of a hot press in the Dublin 2 area recently. The elbow was on Qual-pex pipe (with inserts fitted) and just started leaking without being disturbed after being fit about 3 years previous.
